Behind the scenes: Vietnam

Vietnam is an amazing country for street photography, filled with people that are not even noticing you while taking pictures. Street markets are opening from 4:30am, people selling stuff from their bicycles' baskets, hair dressers on the sidewalks awaiting customers - all of these moments I have captured during my stay there. I was not super excited before my visit, but after flicking trough my images I must say that I would like to go back. This shot is made by @editcserione morning on the streets of #Vietnam's capital.

Straight from Lombok

"Gili Air is developing" - @gettyreportage @lonelyplanet Gili Air is part of the three islands that are near #Lombok called The Gilis. Tourists from #Bali to escape the crowds, they get on a speed boat that takes them within 2 hours to the Gili Islands. Due to the increased popularity the construction of hotels has begun. Men from Lombok are seeing this as a big opportunity to make money since their island is still far behind (in terms of tourism) the Gilis. I am documenting daily a big group of young people that are working on the first big hotel on Gili Air. They have been working at the construction site for 2 years now, living in huts made of leftover construction material. The site is located on the beach and it rather looks like a dumpster, tourists walking by it. They rarely go back to Lombok, even though their home is just a 15 minute boat ride away. #ReportageSpotlight #natgeotravelpic #neverstopexploring #labor #natgeo #lpfanphoto #lonelyplanet #travel #traveling #travelling #instatravel #documentaryphotography #portrait #people #environmentalportrait #photojournalism #globetrotter #passionpasport #Indonesia #asia #streetphotography #wanderlust #worldtravel #behindthephoto

The "All Saints' Church" in Galle Fort, Sri Lanka

All Saints'Church is an Anglican church within the Galle Fort in #Galle.
The decision to build an Anglican #church at Galle, was initiated by the first Bishop of #Colombo, Rt. Rev. James Chapman. The foundation of the church was laid on 30 October 1868, by Rev. Dr. Piers Calveley Claughton, the second #Bishop of Colombo.

(Day 3) 06/09/2015

Tourist are climbing the Rock Island to watch the amazing sunset. The Rock Island is well known sunset viewpoint that is located in the at the end of the golden Mirissa beach.

(Day 2) 05/09/2015

I usually don't share street shots where there is no living being present in the frame. However I've written so many things about the people's attitude towards our planet here in Sri Lanka that I thought that this sidewalk and street sign deserves place in my gallery.

I met the owner of this house/grocery when I arrived #Mirissa and now I am his faithful customer. He is fighting with the "garbage" problem for years now. He tried to speak to the local authorities, the media - with a very little if any success. He said that this was his last attempt to raise awareness. His attempt to get people that are passing by not throw their trash here or anywhere on the street seems helpless. He says if this doesn't work, he will just dump the pile of rubbish in the middle of the street and maybe then, someone will take an action. - @lonelyplanet

Fishing along the southern coast of Sri Lanka - @lonelyplanet

The Indian Ocean suffers from overfishing every year due to the large fishing companies - mostly Indian - that are reducing the numbers of the various marine animals and their natural habitat.

Not only the marine life is in danger here, but also the little fishing villages along the coast. Their survival depends on the fish they can catch and sell.

The other side of Sri Lanka

It's not all that "pristine waters, palm trees, fresh sea food" in Sri Lanka.

The beautiful nature of Dickwella and the human respect towards it. - @lonelyplanet

Dickwella is a small town in South Sri Lanka know for the blow hole and the beautiful seascapes. As a big environmentalist it saddens me to see the neglectful human behavior of those locals that don't appreciate their environment and what Mother Nature gave them.

Note: Rubber materials, in this case rubber tractor tires, need 50-80 years to decompose in the environment!

The beautiful and dangerous FactoryScape

Once a fishermen's paradise and a beautiful beach, now an industrial wasteland. This polluted bay near the town of Trincomalee was once rich with marine life. Today, due to the industrial waste that is polluting the water, the sea animals have left their habitat or died of the poisonous materials.

The real Trinco beach

Waste water is fighting it's way trough the golden sandy beach of Trincomalee to the pristine waters of the Indian Ocean threatening the marine life.

Trains and Frames

I think I can sit all day at some busy train station in Asia and capturing the passengers that are hanging out on the windows of the trains while waiting for departure.

It wasn't my idea to try this amazing framing, it is a tip and idea from my mentor +Steve McCurry. I am not saying about the blog post that went viral on Facebook and youtube about McCurry's tips for better shots, even though that post contains the same shot that is my inspiration, the people holding bicycles out of the train windows in West Bengal, India.

Okay, this is are mine Trains and Frames from Sri Lanka.

The first shot is my first +Instagram upload with the new framing feature.

May 6th 2015 - Skopje, Macedonia Demonstrations

I did a big mistake staying in my country for an extra week and a half to document the recent events that are shaking the already fragile democracy. It's not the same to document sadness in your home as it is in the other parts of the world. These are my people, my friends, my family... Now again my hard drive is full with sad images of my crumbling home, I am not sure that I will publish everything, I just don't want to.

Langtang is gone!

Hope - Langtang village 3475m, Nepal - January 2nd 2015: Tibetan wife is waiting for her husband who went to visit a friend in the upper village of Kyanjin Gompa.

The region was hit by a snow storm the same day and she didn't have info if her husband has arrived safely, if he was in the village or on the way home. The same day in the evening her husband came back to their home and said that he had arrived in the the village moments before the storm caught up the region. The Langtang village is reported totally destroyed by the 7.8 earthquake on 25 April in Nepal, "All lodges destroyed, at least 12 Trekkers gone and many Nepalis" reported Ian Wall for @natgeo

Langtang anno - The life in the Himalayan village Langtang 3457m before the mega 7.8 earthquake that hit #Nepal on April 25th. By @natgeo report the #Langtang village is totally destroyed along with few other lower villages in the Langtang valley.
